MINI Cooper Map Update | R55, R56, R60, F55, F56, F60, F61

MINI Cooper navigation systems span three decades of models and six different factory head units — from the CIC in R-series Professional nav cars to MGU iDrive in the latest F61 Countryman. Outdated maps mean routing errors, missing speed cameras, and postcodes that fail to resolve. This page covers the complete map update package for every MINI from 2010 to present, across all factory navigation systems, confirmed from your VIN before any code is generated.

2014 was the most confusing year in MINI navigation history. The second-generation R60 Countryman was still being sold with Move or Route maps while the new F56 Hatch launched with NEXT or WAY maps. Two MINIs bought in the same month of 2014 require completely different map updates  and the wrong file will not install. VIN at checkout is the only reliable method for any MINI near or before this changeover period.

Select your delivery method, region, and FSC type from the dropdowns on this page. Enter your 17-character VIN at checkout and we confirm your exact system and map type before generating anything.

Which Navigation System Does Your MINI Have?

MINI received more different factory navigation systems across its production run than almost any other single model line. The system fitted to your vehicle depends on chassis generation, build date, and navigation specification ordered at the factory.

Chassis Model Build period Head unit Map type Notes
R55 Clubman 2007–2014 CIC (Pro nav) / CHAMP2 (base) Premium/Move/Motion / Route VIN confirms which — CIC from 2009
R56 Hatch 3-door 2006–2014 CIC (Pro nav) / CHAMP2 (base) Premium/Move/Motion / Route VIN required
R57 Convertible 2008–2015 CIC (Pro nav) / CHAMP2 (base) Premium/Move/Motion / Route VIN required
R58 Coupe 2011–2015 CIC (Pro nav) / CHAMP2 (base) Premium/Move/Motion / Route VIN required
R59 Roadster 2011–2015 CIC (Pro nav) / CHAMP2 (base) Premium/Move/Motion / Route VIN required
R60 Countryman 2010–2016 CIC (Pro nav) / CHAMP2 (base) Premium/Move/Motion / Route/Move VIN required
R61 Paceman 2012–2016 CIC (Pro nav) / CHAMP2 (base) Premium/Move/Motion / Route VIN required
F54 Clubman 2015–2017 NBT NEXT Professional nav — VIN required
F54 Clubman 2017–2024 EVO ID5/ID6 (NBT EVO) EVO maps Pro nav upgraded to EVO — VIN required
F54 Clubman 2015–2024 base EntryNav2 WAY Base nav throughout — VIN required
F55 5-door Hatch 2014–2024 NBT NEXT F55 did NOT receive NBT EVO despite 2018 touchscreen LCI — VIN required
F55 5-door Hatch 2014–2024 base EntryNav2 WAY Base nav — VIN required
F56 3-door Hatch 2014–2024 NBT NEXT F56 did NOT receive NBT EVO despite 2018 touchscreen LCI — VIN required
F56 3-door Hatch 2014–2024 base EntryNav2 WAY Base nav — VIN required
F57 Convertible 2016–2024 NBT NEXT Professional nav — VIN required
F57 Convertible 2016–2024 base EntryNav2 WAY Base nav — VIN required
F60 Countryman 2016–2017 NBT NEXT Professional nav — VIN required
F60 Countryman 2017–2024 EVO ID5/ID6 (NBT EVO) EVO maps Pro nav upgraded to EVO — VIN required
F60 Countryman 2016–2024 base EntryNav2 WAY Base nav throughout — VIN required
F61 Countryman 2024–present MGU iDrive 7/8 LIVE / JOY LIVE = global, JOY = N. America — VIN required

Critical distinction: The F55 and F56 received touchscreen displays from the 2018 LCI update but were NOT fitted with NBT EVO. Only the F54 Clubman and F60 Countryman received NBT EVO with EVO maps. This is the most common ordering error on MINI F-series vehicles — the touchscreen looks identical to EVO but the head unit is different. VIN at checkout confirms the exact system before any code is generated.

How to Check Your Map Type on Screen

Use the correct path for your MINI’s system:

  • CIC (R-series Pro nav): NAV → Options → Settings → Position and map version
  • CHAMP2 / EntryNav Route (R-series base): NAV → Options → Settings → Navigation system version
  • NBT (F54/F55/F56/F57/F60, 2014–2017 Pro): NAV → Options → Settings → Position and version history → Check version
  • EVO ID5/ID6 (F54/F60 from 2017): NAV → Options → Navigation system version
  • EntryNav2 / WAY (all F-series base): NAV → Options → Settings → Navigation system version
  • MGU iDrive 7 (F61, 2024+): Maps → Settings → Location and version → Map version

What the result means:

Screen shows Your system Update needed
PREMIUM [Region] [Year] CIC with Premium maps CIC Premium map update
MOVE [Region] [Year] CIC with Move maps CIC Move map update
MOTION [Region] [Year] CIC with Motion maps CIC Motion map update
ROUTE [Region] [Year] CHAMP2 / EntryNav (R-series base) Route map update
NEXT [Region] [Year] NBT NEXT map update
Road Map [Region] [Year] EVO ID5 or ID6 (F54/F60) EVO update — VIN confirms which
WAY [Region] [Year] EntryNav2 (F-series base) WAY map update
LIVE [Region] [Year] MGU iDrive 7 — global (F61) LIVE map update
JOY [Region] [Year] MGU iDrive 7 — North America (F61) JOY map update

If the screen path does not match your MINI or the result is unclear, enter your VIN at checkout and we identify your exact factory specification before generating any code.

How to Install Your MINI Cooper Map Update

Step-by-step instructions are included with every order. WAY (EntryNav2) uses ENET connection — separate instructions included with WAY orders.

Pre-Loaded USB Shipment (most popular)

  1. Receive your USB

USB arrives with the map file already loaded. No download or formatting needed.

  1. Insert into MINI USB port

Engine running or ignition on. R-series: USB port in glovebox or centre console depending on model year. F-series: USB under the toggle switches in the Centre console.

  1. Follow the on-screen prompt

CIC: NAV → Options → Update maps. CHAMP2/Route: NAV → Options → Update navigation. NBT: NAV → Options → Settings → Update maps. EVO: NAV → Options → Navigation system version → Start update. MGU: Maps → Settings → Start update.

  1. Enter FSC code when prompted

Enter the FSC code from your order email. EVO systems read the code from the USB automatically.

  1. Wait for completion

Do not remove USB or switch off ignition. CIC: 20–45 mins. NBT: 20–40 mins. EVO: 15–30 mins. MGU: 10–25 mins. System confirms completion on screen.

  1. Verify new version

Check the version screen using the same path used to identify your system. Confirm the new map version is displaying correctly.

Instant Download

  1. Download map file

Download from the link in your order confirmation email.

  1. Prepare USB drive

Format to FAT32, maximum 64GB. Copy the map file to the root — not inside a folder.

  1. Insert and update

Follow the on-screen steps from Step 3 above.

If any step does not match what you see on screen, contact us via 24/7 Live Chat. We guide you through your specific system at no extra charge.

MINI Cooper Navigation Region Change

If your MINI was imported and the navigation shows maps for the wrong country — for example a Middle East-spec F60 now used in Europe — this is a region change, not a standard map update. Standard map updates do not change the licensed region.

Frequently Asked Questions

My MINI is a 2014 — which map update does it need?

2014 is the most complex year in MINI navigation history. R60 Countryman production ended in 2016 but was still being sold new in 2014 with CIC or CHAMP2 navigation and Move or Route maps. Simultaneously, the new F56 Hatch launched in 2014 with NBT NEXT or EntryNav2 WAY. Two MINIs bought in the same month of 2014 require completely different updates. VIN at checkout is the only reliable method for any 2014 MINI — the chassis code and build date in the VIN confirm the exact system before any code is generated.

Does the MINI F56 have NBT EVO navigation?

No. The F56 3-door Hatch and F55 5-door Hatch received touchscreen displays from the 2018 LCI facelift, but the head unit remained NBT — not NBT EVO. Only the F54 Clubman and F60 Countryman received NBT EVO. This is the most common ordering error on MINI F-series. An F55 or F56 with touchscreen shows NEXT on the navigation version screen, not Road Map. VIN at checkout confirms the exact head unit before any code is generated.

Which MINI models support Apple CarPlay activation?

CarPlay activation is available for F54 Clubman and F60 Countryman with NBT EVO (EVO ID5 or ID6), and all F-series MINI with EntryNav2 (WAY) base navigation. The F55 and F56 with NBT, all R-series MINI with CIC or CHAMP2, and the F61 Countryman with MGU iDrive 7 do not support CarPlay activation via standard FSC method.

What is included in the MINI Cooper map update package?

Every order includes the latest map data for your selected region, the VIN-specific FSC activation code, and step-by-step installation instructions. Choose delivery method (instant download or pre-loaded USB shipment), region, and FSC type (Lifetime or One-time) from the dropdowns on this page. The FSC code is delivered by email within 30 minutes of VIN verification at checkout.

Does a MINI Cooper map update require a dealer visit?

No. CIC, CHAMP2, NBT, EVO, and MGU updates install via the standard USB port using the built-in map update function. Pre-loaded USB: insert and follow prompts. Instant download: format a FAT32 USB (no larger than 64GB), copy the map file, then follow the prompt. WAY (EntryNav2) requires ENET connection — full instructions are included with WAY orders.

Do you cover all regions for MINI Cooper map updates?

Yes. All regions where BMW and MINI release map data are covered: Europe West, Europe East, North America, Middle East, Australia and New Zealand, Southeast Asia, South America, Southern Africa, Northern Africa, Taiwan, Turkey, India, Israel, Japan, and Argentina. Select your region from the dropdown. VIN confirms regional compatibility before any code is generated.

Can I upgrade my R56 MINI from CHAMP2 Route maps to CIC Premium maps?

No. CHAMP2 (Route maps) and CIC (Premium, Move, or Motion maps) are different head units. A MINI with CHAMP2 hardware cannot install CIC map types — the map type is linked to the head unit at factory level. Route updates to the latest Route release only.

What if I select the wrong map type for my MINI?

Contact us via 24/7 Live Chat before the FSC code is generated. Once a code is issued against your VIN it is locked to that vehicle and map type and cannot be reissued. VIN verification before generation prevents most errors — if your VIN reveals a different system than selected, we correct the order before proceeding.

Get your VIN-specific MINI Cooper map update — latest 2025/2026 map data, FSC code, and installation instructions included. Choose instant download or pre-loaded USB shipment. Select region and FSC type from the dropdowns above, then enter your VIN at checkout. FSC code delivered by email within 30 minutes.
